Weekly Update: 6.29.24
Purdy. Purdy. Purdy.
The cardinal had been flitting around the canopy for awhile -- young and rather gangly, his bright red feathers looking almost tropical in the green Ozarks foliage. I was working in the cool of the woods, my laptop and stack of books spread on a picnic table. The best sort of quiet pervaded the afternoon -- full of rustling leaves and birdsong. The indigo buntings tend to steal the show most afternoons, but occasionally a cardinal will make himself heard. Purdy.
It was a week, alternately stressful and restful.
Levi and Erin took the kids to church camp -- a day camp hosted by our church. It should have been a simple week of fun and fellowship, but instead, vehicle issues caused them problems Saturday through Thursday. Our church family rallied around them, going so far as to give them rides to camp when we couldn't. Thankfully, Levi's minivan was finally out of the shop on Friday -- we were all so thankful.
While they were gone, we sisters took care of the camp chores and garden. It amazes me how much we can find to do around here just "keeping up." When we were done with chores, we treated ourselves to a few afternoons "off" -- taking some time to do personal projects or have a little fun. I planned to work on a writing project, but I found myself too mentally tired. I chose less creative activities -- including a fair bit of genealogy. In hindsight, I think giving my creativity a rest was the best thing I could have done. The next time I get to sit in the woods with my laptop, I think I will have a bit more to say.
Aside from camp and rest, we did get a little done on the bunkhouse. Jeremiah put up a small storage loft in his bedroom. Our dad and Levi worked on venting our plumbing.
It has been an unusual couple of weeks, and I am looking forward to a return to routine. We've had some fun, and we survived some crazy moments, and now we are excited for normal. Next week, we have a trip to Springfield, a holiday to celebrate, and plenty of time to get some solid work done. Jeremiah has a vacation coming up, and he is looking forward to helping us get a lot done on the bunkhouse. Life is good, and I am thankful.
