7C's Annual Meadfest
“It is not the weapon you are given, but how you choose to wield it,” cried a voice on the microphone as three iron-clad knights engaged in an epic tournament. The competition was bordered by cheers, laughter, and applause as members of The Iron Alliance battled with a pillow, frying pan, and fishing rod. My nephew and nieces practically jumped with excitement as the pillow wielding knight took down his opponents. Other onlookers relaxed in lawn chairs sipping wine or mead.
My family and I had a lovely time at the 7 C’s Winery Annual Meadfest in Walnut Grove this past Saturday. This was my first time tasting mead, and my first time visiting the family owned winery. I was not disappointed! They had a large selection of wines and mead to sample, my favorite being their newest mead variety, Rainforest (Cipo Uva Honey from Brazil).
My first mead tasting was accompanied by the sound of Celtic music performed by Rowan's Crossing, which definitely added to the whole experience.
After sampling the wine and mead, I enjoyed admiring period costumes as I perused the booths of many talented local artists and artisans. My nieces and nephew were big fans of the Bird of Prey Demo from Dickerson Park Zoo, which took place later in the afternoon.
Thanks to the 7'C's Winery for putting together such a fun event! I am already looking forward to next year.
